In somatic movement you get the opportunity to really come back to and tune into your body in its fullest sense, i.e. everything that is moving in you as well as your whole physicality. You will learn about the unhelpful patterns which we can all get into with our movement and posture and learn a series of gentle but very powerful movements to help you release these habitual ways that you hold tension in the muscles and fascia. Somatic movement really focusses our awareness on what is going on for us and gives us new ways to move and feel. Many people report an increase in energy when Somatics is practised regularly as you aren’t using so much energy holding yourself in tight and unhelpful patterns. You will learn a series of movements to take away and use regularly in your home practice.
Ian Young is an inspirational somatic movement teacher from Leeds. The power of his teaching comes from his own personal journey with severe childhood arthritis and using a walking stick for 20 years until he learnt how somatics could unwind so much of the stiffness he felt to move and feel better. So he can teach from the inside out as he knows how it feels to have restrictions and difficulties and how to overcome then. Come and be inspired!
